And yet in Acts, they merely asked Peter what must we do to be saved, and he said, repent, be baptised and you will receive the Holy Spirit.... maybe we should go back a little further.
And yet the Israelites, merely had a tent before the temple. Imagine reading the Old Testament with the same criticism. It's almost as if Jesus really meant what he said when he would "build his church". Which is why Paul explicitly instructs us to hold fast to the traditions that we have been taught, by word or by letter. It was clear the church was liturgical, apostolic and bishopric from the earliest days. If we are going to read the New Testament correctly, we cannot continue to bring our modern lens.
While we may learn many a things from post-apostolic times, what is written in the NT remains our guide, lest we find ourselves taking a cafeteria approach to post-apostolic times.
