What happens after the servant suffers, bears our griefs, sees the light, and distributes gifts (Isaiah 52:12–53:12)? Well, Isaiah 54 does.

1 “Rejoice, o barren one, who has borne no child. Be cheerful with a cry of rejoicing and rejoice although you are not in labour because the children of the desolate one will surpass the children of the married one,” says YHWH.

The church grows because the servant suffered.

2–3 "Enlarge the site of the tent, and spread out the curtains of your dwelling places. Do not hold anything back. Extend your tent rope. Strengthen your pegs. For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your offspring will inherit the nations and will inhabit the desolate cities."

Christ will build his church.

4 "Fear for you will not be ashamed; and be not humiliated for you will not feel abashed because you will forget the shame of your youth, and you will never remember the disgrace of your widowhood."

You are forgiven because the servant bore your shame & provided you a new family.

5 "For your husband is your maker, YHWH of armies is his name! And your Redeemer is the holy one of Israel. He is called God over all the earth!"

Though we were married to sin and death, the servant brings light and life. He bore what which we lost and gives us to God in marriage.

6 “For YHWH calls you like a wife who is abandoned and hurting in spirit or like a youthful wife when she is rejected,” says YHWH.

Hurting, depressed, and alone, the servant takes on your suffering to bear it away and to bring you to matrimonial bliss with God.

7–8 “I abandoned you for a brief moment, but I will gather you with great compassion. With overflowing anger I momentarily made my face be hidden from you. But with everlasting faithfulness I will have compassion on you,” says YHWH, your Redeemer.

Never again will there be wrath, for the servant guarantees everlasting faithfulness and compassion to us.

10 theology books that changed my life
We should read old books that have stood the test of time. Here are ten of those, not in any particular order. I could add many more.

Paul Went to the Third Heaven. What in the World Is He Talking About?
Somewhat apologetically, Paul describes himself as a man “in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven” (2 Cor 12:2).
